1. Fight for the best candidate; make sure you’re cleareyed about both your choice and the one you end up with
2. Vote for the eventual nominee when the alternative is massive rollback of rights/suffering at scale
3. If your party’s candidate wins, push her hard to be accountable
There are certainly times when voting conscience over pragmatism even in the generals should be encouraged: Local races (including House!); races not facing the massive handicap of gerrymandering or the electoral college; races in which the outcome is heavily weighted already.
But if 2016 has taught us anything it’s that at the national level, our system is hugely vulnerable to external gaming and fragmentation of the left vote. So yeah: Vote blue in 2020 regardless of who’s nominated to run against Trump, dammit
