1. Fight for the best candidate; make sure you’re cleareyed about both your choice and the one you end up with
2. Vote for the eventual nominee when the alternative is massive rollback of rights/suffering at scale
3. If your party’s candidate wins, push her hard to be accountable
There are certainly times when voting conscience over pragmatism even in the generals should be encouraged: Local races (including House!); races not facing the massive handicap of gerrymandering or the electoral college; races in which the outcome is heavily weighted already.
But if 2016 has taught us anything it’s that at the national level, our system is hugely vulnerable to external gaming and fragmentation of the left vote. So yeah: Vote blue in 2020 regardless of who’s nominated to run against Trump, dammit

While reasonable, this thread plays the conventional game of assuming Democrats can’t do anything alone; that Republicans have sole veto power because they refuse to compromise—even when the future is at risk. It sums up what Dems should settle for.

Post-2020, we can do better.
2020 will be a generational election, in which Dems have the chance to flip the White House and build an ironclad majority in Congress by drawing as sharp a contrast as possible with the corrupt, failed party in power.

You can’t do that by aiming for uninspiring compromise.
Which is more likely to catch fire with 2020 voters—a bold plan for a reimagined future that’s green, just and humane, or...a bill to try to our best to reduce livestock farts?

I think you know the answer.

It’s the Green New Deal, not the New Green Deal, though.

The sustainability part is *meant* to be a framing device and rationale for the social programs. Maybe it’s overambitious and fuzzy or impractical in some areas, but isn’t that how major legislative campaigns always begin?
Regarding paying for the #GreenNewDeal: Tax carbon. Tax the rich. Take an equity bite out of startups that the program invests in. There‘ll need to be rightsizing, but it’s not more improbable to make work than was the first New Deal, which cost about 1% of our GDP over 8 years.
The cost for the combined programs has been pegged at $40 trillion. But $32 trillion of that is Medicare For All, which if we carve off, leaves $8 trillion for the core GND (including job guarantees, student loan forgiveness, free college, paid leave & Social Security expansion).

It’s amazing that AMI’s mob coercion tactics DIRECTLY ON TRUMP’S BEHALF are just coming out, now that Bezos has unloaded on them. It makes you wonder how deep this sewer goes: how many threatening emails they’ve sent, what they have or claim to have in their vaults.
It’s clear that Congress should be investigating and calling hearings on AMI, and if they don’t, it’s because key members know they’re compromised or fear that they might be.

@AstorAaron @TheAtlantic @davidfrum That may feel good. In reality, the problem is US. It's apathy. We complain or sit out because we don't get our way. Congress is elected by US. If voter participation is < 50%, we deserve the congress we get. Unless we take power with 60-70% participation, it stays as is #vote.

1. Only have elections every two years
2. This includes all local ones too - city council, school board, etc
3. Make sure that local elections are in the same years as national ones
4. Then get out and vote every 2 years - no excuses!

1. 2020, we need to control the states that will give us the majority of the electoral votes
2. This means we need to win governorships and state legislatures
3. So we can determine redistricting
4. Be inclusive/aware of demographic trends for redistricting.

As of August 2017, the Artist's Union England determines the following hourly rates for an artist to be fair; £21.04 p/hr for a new graduate artist. That's about $28 dollars for my US friends. This goes up to £27.27 p/hr for 3 yrs+ exp, and £31.47 per hour for 5 years or more. /2
If you are doing sessional/daily rates such as presentations, consultations and installations. You should be looking at £166.24 p/day (£ 83.12 p/ 1⁄2 day) for a new grad artist, £218.19 p/day (£109.10 p/ 1⁄2 day) 3 yrs+ exp, £270.14 p/day (£135.07 p/ 1⁄2 day) 5 yrs+ exp. /3
