Far too many Americans are still forced to choose between having a career and taking time off to care for a newborn or tend to an ailing loved one...
Every new parent should be able to take those exhausting, emotional, irreplaceable first few weeks with their baby without having to forgo their paycheck or lose their job, just like I was fortunate enough to do last spring after giving birth to my second daughter...
No one should be fired for taking time off to care for a loved one, like my husband was after he used all of his unpaid leave to be by my hospital bedside after I was wounded in Iraq...
I’m proud to join @gillibrandny in introducing the #FAMILYAct to expand paid leave for all Americans and fix the status quo forces so many women and families into poverty.

These residents have every right to be outraged: the Trump EPA is letting them down and refusing to take basic steps to determine whether thousands of families are breathing in toxic chemicals every day.

Mr. Wehrum has spent his career putting profits ahead of the health and well-being of his fellow Americans. Stories like this are deeply concerning and are one of the reasons I placed a hold on his nomination. politico.com/story/2019/02/…

This bipartisan deal is not perfect, but it prevents another wasteful and unnecessary government shutdown that hurts our economy and holds the paychecks of hundreds of thousands of government employees and contractors hostage.
Instead of forcing federal workers and their families to once again go without pay, this deal gives them a well-deserved cost-of-living increase.
It increases our investments in infrastructure, public health and environmental safety and it provides local communities with more resources to address the opioid epidemic.

Tonight, we saw the same reckless rhetoric that has been a signature of Donald Trump’s presidency. Instead of attempting to unite the country and bring people together after the ridiculous and unnecessary government shutdown...
...the President played on America’s internal divisions and employed his usual xenophobic attacks on immigrants. Instead of proposing ethics reforms to clean up Washington, he asked Congress and law enforcement to stop investigating misconduct in his administration.
He missed a critical opportunity to present credible solutions to some of the serious challenges facing our country, like our crumbling infrastructure & rising health care costs. The American people are counting on their elected leaders to come together on these difficult issues.

This Day in Labor History: February 15, 1907. The U.S. and Japan come to the "Gentlemen's Agreement," ending Japanese immigration after racist Californians segregated Asians in schools. Let's talk about how white workers so often place white solidarity over class solidarity.
West Coast employers wanted cheap labor. The region received very little immigration from southern and eastern Europe like the east, so they had to be creative.
Originally, western employers hired the Chinese to do menial work, but the angry response from west coast labor that led to the Chinese Exclusion Act, the first major legislative victory for organized labor in the nation’s history, ended that supply in 1882.

#Khashoggi Case Thread: I am going to ‘pin’ this post to use it as an ‘Info Thread’ on the #Khashoggi Case. I am in #Turkey. I’ve been following the case closely and with access to sources & experts here. This is a very ‘sensitive’ criminal case due to ‘Diplomatic Booby Traps’!!!
The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

Reading a forthcoming book called Hitler's American Friends.

It's about the America First Committee and will probably be a worthwhile read when it comes out.

There was a lot of infighting about tone -- think alt-lite vs. alt right.
People like Charles Lindbergh were the ones who drummed up the most support for the movement. Because of their openly anti-Semitic views.

There was apparently a lot of fighting between people like Lindbergh & people who thought they should promote fascism with a friendlier tone
And there was a disinformation campaign. Apparently Americans were told that Roosevelt was secretly Jewish and had changed his name from "Rosenfeld." Wow. I did not know this.
