I've worked in higher ed, but the only way for me to advance and improve as an instructor was by having autonomy over my pedagogy and engaging in a process that allowed me to practice iterative changes, working from student feedback.
That iterative process has led to the curriculum enshrined in "The Writer's Practice," which is easily adoptable by instructors and classes, but I also took great care to make it adaptable as well as adoptable. Teachers must take some ownership. amazon.com/Writers-Practi…
This from @nancyflanagan nails it for me. Curriculum must be a menu where we can select out bits that fit our pedagogical values (mine are curiosity, student agency, student expertise), but we must be free to combine and alter items as we see fit.
