Jussie Smollett was willing to frame two innocent people for the attack—ruining their lives and sending them to prison—and only backed off after he realized police had the guys he hired in custody. This is not “sad” or “heartbreaking.” He’s a sociopath.
Going back and watching his interviews is seriously terrifying. If one person can convince the media, celebrities, and most of the Democratic presidential candidates of something so obviously full of holes, our collective immune system against falsehood is shot.
Honestly this is why you need to be friends with and follow a wide variety of people and viewpoints. The incentive to spread lies is present in every group, and you will only hear that a story is false from the side that’s being slurred.
If you don’t know or follow any Trump supporters you would probably have believed the story and never would have heard that it was false. And the same is true of half the stories you hear about Muslims or any other group. Get out of your bubble.
There’s no incentive for celebrities, journalists, or politicians to get it right but if you have a diverse social circle you’ll learn how to smell the bullshit. Living in the truth is hard but it’s much more miserable to have a false view of the world that keeps cracking.
This thread is going viral so if you agree with it I encourage you to stop and follow 5 accounts from a group you don’t agree with so you’ll be more likely to know when a story is bullshit. Change your own incentives.
