According to the sthala purana this idol of Lord Ugra Narasimha was sculpted by Vishwakarma and Given to His beloved devotee, Prahlada by the Lord Himself. Prahlada worshipped this idol for a long time and then handed over the idol to his grandson Bali.
Bali then placed this idol in varahapura near Kochi.Due to certain bad omens seen there people from varahapura approached Srimad Vijayeendra Thirtha Swamiji. Srimad Vijayeendra Thirtha Swamiji was a sarva - tantra - swatantra
a master of the sixty four arts, the most powerful champion and exponent of Madhwa Siddhanta. Swamiji then carried the idol from Varahapura with them and as per divine wish installed it in Mulki on Margashira Poornima.
The Famous PrathisthaPoornima Mahotsava is celebrated to commemorate this auspicious event.

Wonderful news coming in from the ancient temple of lord Venkataramana in Mulki in remote coastal Karnataka!

The temple is one of the holy places for the Saraswat Brahmin and GSB community.

A short thread about the latest news with some history follows. 🙂🙏
Situated on the bank of river Shambhavi, the little town of Mulki is home to numerous temples dating back to 6th century. Among those are the Venkataramana and Ugra Narasimhaswamy temples.

It was a peaceful little town filled with scores of devout Hindus.
All this changed when Islamic invaders began attacking and looting temples across the region. Don't want to get into those gory details now.

The priests of the Mulki dropped the Utsava murthis of Lord Narasimha into a well inside the temple to keep it safe from invaders.

Lord Shiva is worshipped at this Holiest of the #Jyotirlingas as #Pashupatinath, Lord of all Living Beings.
The temple serves as the seat of National Deity of Nepal.
The #12Jyotirlingas in India are the body while #Pashupatinath is the Head.
Temple has around 500 shrines.
The Temple of #Pashupatinath dates back to 400 BC, the present temple was built by Lichavi King #SupushpaDev in 15 CE after the original was destroyed by termites.
It houses the 11CE #Guheshwari temple dedicated to #AadiShakti.

This Mukhalinga is #Budhnilkantha in the complex & is 5 faced.

On the occasion of Vaikunta Ekadashi sharing a detailed #WalkToTemple thread on one of the most significant Shri Vaishnava Kshetrams, the Cheluvanarayana Swamy & Yoga Narasimha Swamy temples at Melukote, Karnataka.
This is the entrance to the Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple. The main temple itself dates back to the pre-Hoysala era & enjoyed the patronage of later rulers of Vijayanagara empire & the Mysore Wadiyars. Shri Ramanujacharya spend a significant amount of time here. #WalkToTemple
The Gopuram is in the typical Hoysala/Vijayanagara style, featuring the Kirtimukha at the very top & the "Sala" or the fighting lion at various tiers, the Sala was the royal emblem of the Hoysalas, who were Vaishnavites. #WalkToTemple
