FWIW, in my social media orbit, the overwhelming response to Bernie's announcement has been a resigned sigh. A few cheers, a few loud boos, but mostly just [deep inhale, slow sigh]. Not sure what to make of it yet, but it seems unusual and notable.
Just speaking for myself here, but if I could translate my sigh into English, it would say "history cast you in the role of the outside dissenter dragging the center leftward. You performed well, now it's time to step aside and let a new generation pick up the mantle."
Going to throw this thread into the mix as well. I really do think age is a factor, and this isn't only about Bernie. There's a reason why the retirement age is 67. I'm only 50 and the thought of being POTUS exhausts me.
