This is significant:

Following the publication of its omnibus no deal Brexit bill yesterday, the Irish Government last night also issued a tender to carry out customs and regulatory inspections at border posts in Ireland in the event of a no deal Brexit irl.eu-supply.com/app/rfq/public…
The contract – worth an estimated total of €4 million over three years – is for fully qualified veterinarians to carry out a number of duties related to the import of live animals and animal products into Ireland.
The border posts listed include Dublin Port, Rosslare Port, Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport. Crucially, the tender also includes the possibility of stationing the vets along the land border with Northern Ireland in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Despite the EU confirming that the time for talking is over, Theresa May is still trying to insist that Brexit negotiations are "still ongoing".

History is mocking Brexit again.

In the early 1960s when the UK was negotiating to join the then EEC (EU) the Government thought it could have its cake and eat it too. HMG wanted both a comprehensive free trade agreement with Europe but also to maintain an independent trade policy with the rest of the world.
The UK was asking to have the benefits of the Common Market but didn’t want the responsibilities of complying with EEC regulations or its Common External Tariff.

Britain wasn’t simply seeking to join. It first wanted to change the rules and then join.

The Irish Government has today published the full details of its legislation to deal with a no deal Brexit. The so-called Omnibus Bill comprises 15 pieces of legislation across 9 Government departments who have worked on the legislation for over a year dfa.ie/news-and-media…
'The Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019' addresses the practical issues that would be created by a disorderly UK exit from the EU.
It deals with issues, big and small, such as facilitating agreements between Ireland and the UK to ensure Irish and UK students will not be liable for foreign fees.

Parliament’s current impasse is the culmination of a domestic political failure to solve an trilemma which has, in various forms, been left unresolved since the UK’s first attempt to join the then European Economic Community (EEC) in 1961.

A THREAD:
The PM and the Brexit negotiations process have determined that parliament must choose between a maximum two of three options: 1) customs and regulatory alignment with Europe; 2) no hard border with Ireland, and; 3) an all-UK solution.

These same red lines arose 60 years ago.
The move towards Europe began in 1959 when both Britain and Ireland both decided to establish diplomatic relations with the EEC. However, there were fears in Dublin that the EEC might approve the UK application but reject Ireland’s owing to its as yet under-developed economy.

Last night @jeremycorbyn laid down his concrete proposals for Labour to vote with May on the #Brexit Withdrawal Agreement in the Commons.

Let us look at them from an EU27 perspective and what they mean for the negotiations:

@jeremycorbyn On the positive side, Corbyn accepts that the WA will not be reopened - including the backstop - and focuses on the Political declaration to assure the Backstop will not be needed.

As @AndrewDuffEU argued, this is a much more viable path for agreement with the EU27.
@jeremycorbyn @AndrewDuffEU His proposals are, however, little less than a Labour form of cherry picking:

On Customs Union, he wants a seat with full say at the table for the UK. A form of consultations, possibly, but certainly no vote for a third country.

So. Tomorrow the House of Commons will vote on a series of possible amendments to Theresa May's 'Plan B' - or rather the 'plan of action to achieve a Plan B' - which itself officially reads as follows:
The amendment most likely to pass – and therefore the one on which most attention has been paid – is this one from Conservative party chairman Sir Graham Brady. It's effectively an instruction to go back and seek *some unstated other way* to avoid a hard border in Ireland:
Tonight, Theresa May has asked her backbenchers to vote in favour of this amendment. She is basically asking them to tie her hands, so that Brussels will clearly know what it would take to win the Commons' backing for any deal.

Despite her #BREXIT deal being defeated by biggest margin a government has lost a vote ever maybot seeks concessions on backstop despite being told to bog off by the EU with no realistic hope of a different answer
Corbyn meanwhile refuses to talk #BREXIT without no deal being ruled out despite knowing she can't do this whilst maybot makes no concessions either.

1. There has been a subtle change in tone from the #Brexit ultras over the last week or so - moving on from their enthusiasm for a no-deal Brexit to a supposedly more measured Canada FTA approach. This is a deceitful cop out.
2. As we all know by now (unless you're a thick as mince Tory MP) an FTA means we are still subject to standard third country customs controls and does not in any way solve any of the regulatory issues identified in the EU notices to stakeholders.
3. Consequently it does not even begin to address the NI border issue and would require the backstop and the EU will not agree to an FTA unless we sign up to the backstop. So while the snipe at Chequers for being unworkable, their own proposal won't work either.

1. There's a subtle shift in tone from the ultras this morning who are now pushing for a Canada+ agreement. That + is going to have to do a lot of work because we'd still be subject to third country controls thus having a similarly damaging effect to no deal #Brexit.
2. Again the Brexiters are ducking the issue that to have frictionless trade you need full regulatory harmonisation. If we don't have that then Mrs May will have to sign the NI backstop. Chequers is an attempt to fudge this question but it is at least a nod to reality.
3. Mrs May has attempted to bridge the unbridgeable divide. Chequers is an attempt at regulatory alignment while maintaining a level of regulatory sovereignty - which is tolerable but not to the EU. They won't go for it.
