Buddy Bolden invented what’s known as “The Big Four”, subsequently creating the blueprint for all the Jazz that’s followed.
Bolden was an inspiration to a young Louis Armstrong, and considered “KING” by all the legends of his day. (Funny how we still crown kings in our music to this day... To this day.😤) 
Jazz, like the Hip Hop of today, was a provocative music, blending church hymns, blues (🤭blasphemy,) off color lyrics and innuendo.

Only one photograph of Bolden exists, and his sound was never recorded; all his tunes were played by ear. He never wrote any of his music down (ok Hov,) he wasn’t a formally trained musician. But he truly was an entertainer.
The gist of Funky Butt was later recorded by Jelly Roll Morton, who was in fact the 1st to write Jazz down. Because of this, some claim HE invented Jazz. He did not.

Well, long story short, Buddy up and went crazy in his 30’s (same Buddy, same. 😩)
He lived out the rest of his years in an insane asylum, occasionally playing his coronet for anyone who would listen...
