When patient OUTCOMES don't matter and aren't tracked....
The house that over/wrong regulation destroyed.
1. To understand the gravity of intractable pain and forcible taper, and the death that has occurred here, lets review Carla's story in her own words... she was gravely injured in a car accident in 1980 will multiple fractures throughout her skeleton.
2. She had multiple pain physicians in the last 3 years, each of which engaged in forcible taper to get her under 90 MME and the installation of a pain pump which she could not afford to maintain on her disability income. Her pharmacy stopped filling her Rxs claiming TN regs.
Alternative modalities were tried and discarded as she became more limited over time. In the last 24 mos her pain support declined to the point that she was experiencing episodes of cardiac arrest (X3). Carla authorized her testimony to be shared.
Carla's story illustrates that when MME, dose, and duration are the only measures of pain care, and we place avoidance of regulatory interference above quality of care and desired patient QOL, we miss the forest for the trees. Rest in power Carla. We will make sure you are heard
Walgreens Pharmacy abandoned Carla because OPIOIDs.
It may be fair to make the claim that the accident Carla survived in the 1980's was the equivalent of being blown up on a battlefield. As is often seen in the course of these things, it led to onset of progressive disease processes across multiple body systems.
Tennessee Together failed this family
Carla is not an anecdote.
@SenAlexander This story of health care regulatory failure just happened this past week. It's is in your backyard. Over regulation led to under/wrong care and the premature death of our Tennessee neighbor.
