Labour are playing an extraordinarily dangerous game of chicken with Theresa May. They're planning to abstain so that her deal passes, on the condition that there's an amendment made that subjects it to a people's vote validation.

However:
A) We've seen the contempt with which the Government treats amendments
B) They will have no control over the wording of the referendum, nor the timing. What if TM makes it "my deal vs no deal"
C) It's abdicating their responsibility: they know her deal's junk, but...
D) What if some other amendment is later passed to strip theirs out, as the bill bounces between the HOC/HOL and back
E) What if TM finds another way to wriggle out
Remember, she only needs her deal to pass. She couldn't care less how. Once it passes, that's Brexit done & dusted.
