The left is playing a very dangerous game by going all-in on open borders. That platform has essentially destroyed the center-left across all of Europe, leading to right-wing populism in every nation, including the complete takeover in places like Hungary and (seemingly) Italy.
Instead of hedging with moderate compromises that would still lead to their potential American hegemony in 15-20 years, they're risking a full backlash that could stall that hegemony for decades.
