According to Nick Timothy (TM's former policy advisor): "Theresa’s instincts have been that economically, this [Brexit] is a risk to be managed, but politically this is an opportunity and that main opportunity is to recover control of immigration."

That's ridiculous logic because non-EU migration (over which we have complete control already) keeps going up and up and up, and recently hit the highest level since 2004. So the problem (if one exists - debatable) isn't Brexit at all, it's policy failure!

In other words, whether we leave the EU or stay in won't make a hill of beans difference to non-EU migration. That's already something we can control. We just choose not to! And it's the non-EU migration that's the main contributor to migration figures, not people from the EU.
Trying to use immigration as a Brexit excuse is like saying "we're got to move because we keep getting burgled all the time" while ignoring the fact that's because we leave our doors and windows wide open 24/7. Very little to do with the area, everything to do with our behaviour.
