We are not even trying to be logically coherent any more, are we? A methodologically ridiculous article.
1) Again with the stupid growth rate comparisons. Anyone chosing 10% growth over 0.5% growth without asking “so what amount are we talking about” is an idiot.
2) Dataset. So you compare data starting 1998 and say “the Customs Union does not deliver”. When was the Customs Union established? In 1968. So any Customs Union boost was long before 1998.
Oh. You might say. So the article was right, the boost was in the past. We can get out now. That, of course, is just foolish. All of the trade within the EU now operates under the favourable CU conditions. Getting out means things get much worse.
3) And finally: let’s suppose we are all wrong. The CU does not deliver. The SM does not deliver. Well then we really and clearly should not sign any FTA. Because if the most integrative of them don’t bring benefits, the lesser once would be a joke.
