/ I seem to view blogging very differently from most other bloggers: the busier I am with other projects, the more content I produce
/ That's because most of what I publish is "refined byproducts" that are spun off from other projects. I'm exploring or discovering or learning something elsewhere, and when I notice I've created an artifact of value, I just spin it into a post
/ When I have lots of free time, my rate of content creation goes way down. I get perfectionistic, I get fussy, I get precious. My temperamental artist comes out. I can't afford these indulgences when I'm very busy executing projects
/ I think if I couldn't blog, I wouldn't be able to take on nearly as many projects. I *have* to publish content when I have lots of simultaneous projects, because I need to offload memory from my brain to make room for new things
/ It's like I'm redirecting mental resources from hard disk storage to RAM processing, and blocks of data are being shunted to offsite storage, which is my blog. Writing for an external audience helps, because I'm forced to state things in a way my future self would understand
/ It wouldn't be nearly as effective to just offload my thoughts into notes. The social risk of publishing externally sears the memory of that post in my mind – not the detailed contents, but the existence of it, which is the only thing I truly need to recall
/ People say they're too busy to blog, but I say they're too busy NOT to blog
