BREAKING Equality and Human Rights Commission has launched a formal investigation into Labour over anti-semitism. 1/4
Equalities regulator wrote to Labour’s General Secretary Jennie Formby yesterday, after another week of damaging revelations. 2/4
EHRC spokesman:

‘Having received a number of complaints regarding antisemitism in the Labour Party, we believe Labour may have unlawfully discriminated against people because of their ethnicity and religious beliefs.’ 3/4
EHRC spokesman: ’Our concerns are sufficient for us to consider using our statutory enforcement powers. As set out in our enforcement policy, we are now engaging with the Labour Party to give them an opportunity to respond.’ 4/4

This is really terrible news for Labour - demonstrates the extent of failure of party's leadership to get to grips with the problem. But when people at the very highest level just do not believe there *is* a problem, how can it ever be solved?
Labour responds: “We completely reject any suggestion the party has acted unlawfully and will be cooperating fully with the EHRC. Labour is fully committed to the support, defence and celebration of the Jewish community and its organisations."

BREAKING: Labour MP Chris Williamson has been suspended from the Labour party pending investigation
Labour spokesman says: "Chris Williamson is suspended from the Party, and therefore the whip, pending investigation."
He was earlier issued with a notice of investigation but once his pattern of behaviour was reviewed in full Labour general secretary Jennie Formby decided to suspend him.

Mr Willsman should have no input whatsoever into decisions about antisemitism in the Party. Furthermore, he should be expelled for his appalling tirade accusing the Jewish community and its rabbinic leadership of conspiring to falsify or exaggerate antisemitism allegations.
Instead of investigating Mr Willsman, he has been exonerated by Labour’s General Secretary, Jennie Formby, who was reportedly satisfied with an apology. He is now standing for reelection to the NEC along with other candidates, including some who have defended Ken Livingstone.

Labour general secretary Jennie Formby pledged to make tackling anti-Semitism her top priority when she was appointed to the role earlier this year. She is currently on holiday.

Just remember that @MargaretHodge received a disciplinary letter within 12 hours. To put that into perspective, 3 months after promises to clear all major outstanding cases of antisemitism, the vast majority remain open.
