More than 275 financial firms are moving a combined $1.2 trillion (£925.4 billion) in assets & funds and thousands of staff from Britain to the European Union in readiness for Brexit at a cost of up to $4 billion, a report from a think tank said on Monday. uk.reuters.com/article/uk-bri…
2/. The report by the New Financial think tank, one of the most detailed yet on the impact of Brexit on financial services, said Dublin alone accounted for 100 relocations, ahead of Luxembourg with 60, Paris 41, Frankfurt 40, and Amsterdam 32.
3/ 10 large banks & investment banks are together moving £800 billion of assets from U.K. - or 10 percent of banking assets in the country. A small selection of insurers have shifted a combined £35 billion in assets & a handful of asset managers have moved a total of £65 billion

I’m afraid, from my observations, Brexit is whatever Leavers think will be the latest argument to gain traction.

It offends me greatly that the gap between what was offered and what is capable of being delivered is so vast.
It seems, too, they do not understand that sovereignty needs power, to be used to our advantage.

A man in a desert may have sovereignty but little power (Heseltine).

We give up some sovereignty to gain more.

As for democracy. I spit on the referendum. It was not democratic

2. One of the themes I returned to was a slightly wikipedian one - that if the Internet drew more people into politics, it would be very damaging for democracy, and that we needed to design something that ‘describes the problem’ from thousands (millions?) of perspectives.
3. Something that would give politicians something more useful than the political village to listen to - an eavesdroppable public sphere from which politicians could be visibly absent (because it all gets poisonous once they’re seen to be there, putting a prize at stake).

As the #USS dispute goes on, it's clearer than ever that the institutions that govern our pensions have been failing us in multiple ways. They are secretive, non-transparent, marked by conflicts of interest and revolving doors. We need to open up and #DemocratizeUSS.
Of the 5 “independent” Trustees of #USS, 4 have a background working for investment and financial services companies, the 5th used to work for Rio Tinto, the mining company, running their gold mines in Papua New Guinea.
