/n Recently released 2018 survey data shows that few people, of any party, consider themselves supporters of the Alt-Right or white nationalist movement
/n Results hardly change when limited to White respondents
/n Interestingly, slightly more Blacks and Hispanics than Whites consider themselves supporters of the Alt-Right/White Nationalist movement (though the diffs aren't statistically significant)
/n Data on Antifa support to follow. But, for now, the 'menace' of the Alt-Right appears to have been much exaggerated (which probably won't come as news to a lot of my followers)

ccing @georgehawleyUA as well; I know you study this topic.
/n In contrast, we observe a somewhat larger proportion of people considering themselves supporters of Antifa.
/n Just under 1 in 5 White Democrats say they support antifa
/n By ideology, this proportion jumps to roughly 1 in 3 among self-identified 'very liberal' whites (22% among White Liberals as a whole)
/n No significant differences in support by race
/n Those that interpret the Alt-Right/White Nationalist findings as driven by social desirability effects must then conclude that the narrative that Trump made it 'okay/cool' to be openly racist again = lie.
/n I'll just keep adding other interesting findings: 42.5% of self-identified 'very liberal' whites consider themselves 'activists' as compared to 17.4% of 'very conservative' whites.
/n 'Very liberal' Whites are significantly more politically active on social media than every other subgroup.
/n Added together, their frequency of political social media activity places over 0.4 of a standard deviation above the mean.
/n Results below are about what you'd expect: 47.4% and 46% of 'very liberal' whites think it can be appropriate to protest by disrupting another group's rally and blocking traffic, respectively. White conservatives, otoh, are more likely to say that none of the listed...
/n...protest tactics are ever appropriate.
