One thing single mothers raising boys should come to terms with is the fact that they are already at a disadvantage. Boys need their fathers.

But this does not mean that when life throws you a curve ball you cannot raise strong masculine men.

A knotty issue is always how to talk about sex with boys. It can't happen intuitively given the biological differences between men and women. But reading up helps. Also, having responsible men you can turn to for advice is always good.

You need to talk unashamedly, frankly, truthfully, objectively and seriously about body changes during puberty and how to use and not use sex organs. It is very important that their first lessons about sex comes from you.

Let them understand why they have erections, that it is nothing to be ashamed of. Teach them responsibility that comes with experiencing erections. Talk to them about masturbation, wet dreams, and their overall sexuality.

You certainly should not wait till they have reached puberty before you tall about these things. If your son is not the curious type, create opportunities to broach such subjects. Pregnant women are always a great subject to build on.

If your son does not ask where babies come from, ask them and them have a conversation around it. But be careful to give age appropriate answers and gradually give more information.

Also, have it clear in your mind how you want to steer the conversation. Your sons will sense when you are unsure. For instance of you are not sure if masturbation is good or bad, make up your mind what your stand is before you have that conversation.

Like I said, you need to prepare your mind and acknowledge the fact that you are not a father, but you can do more to close the gap that not having a father creates in your sons. You must be the best example possible.

One final thing, changing male partners randomly and regularly is not good for the mental health of your sons. So, think about them as you try to satisfy your sexual needs.
