One of society's biggest problems is that too many people can't understand nuance.

Some people seeing me argue against censorship keep trying to associate me with free market conservatives even though I literally defend regulation in the podcast.
I've done whole rants about the need for regulating the markets and regulating companies.

Nothing about my politics is conservative.

Unfortunately the far left doesn't understand moderation, only extremism and revolution
in reference to the JRE twitter episode ^

I grew up on Chicago's Southside. Gang violence, drugs, etc.

My family lost our home when I was a kid. I was homeless on and off in my late teens.

Charlotte comes from prosperity but can't recognize it, she wants more than she already has and now embraces socialism to get it
Its the epitome of the privileged elites.

They are so blind to their wealth and prosperity they assume they must not have it.

Everything is relative so they truly don't understand the plight of average Americans. They actually think they have it bad.
But its obvious to everyone else.

To see a verified Twitter user with over 20k followers, writer for TIME, whose sibling works in Venture Capital act like they have never seen prosperity, its mind blowingly out of touch.

Lets talk about the Streisand Effect.

I just received a Copyright BLOCK On my Video about "drag kids" from Live Nation Video Network.

There is nothing in this video at all from Live Nation, it is news commentary with screenshots.

Here is the video. I used screenshots and its all news and commentary

According to the claim it was detected manually and there is no use reference (usually it says something like content found at 1:23 - 1:32)

Considering it was a manual block I am assuming it was an attempt to silence the discussion

Twitter banned hate speech but the platform rewards hate

It encourages people to make the most inflammatory hot take in order to rile up a base that will push their account to a new audience

People make fake posts, take quotes out of context, and generally lie to get rewarded
Followers then want to be a part of the group and join in on the brigading.

Covington is a great example of this phenomenon.

Facts don't matter, being in the herd matters.
The point is the mechanics of Twitter make this happen.

Over time the distributed human machine figures out what works and what doesn't based on the paths laid out by Twitter.

Early on Twitter was fun and valuable but then humans solved the game

Similarly, today we are seeing a shift to a boom in the variety and type of companies being funded as tech investors pursue other areas that I would characterize as "software aware" versus "software driven".

1/ A thread on “existential” threats.

Apologies for another long one. Trying to sort my feelings out on this one.
2/ This is something I have been flip-flopping over for a while. Were three Jewish newspapers right to say that there was an “existential threat to Jewish life in this country that would be posed by a Jeremy Corbyn-led government”? Two things have made me think further on this.
3/ First was @margarethodge’s nuanced interview (please read it all) about her feelings of anxiety over the disciplinary charges brought against her, and second was the Evening Standard’s attack on Sadiq Khan. Both have something to teach us about this issue.

Let's talk a bit about what @VitalikButerin called "anti-network effects". TLDR: There is no empirical basis for the notion that network effects inevitably lead to a winner-takes-all outcome. In most cases, such a conclusion is simply a matter of framing.
One of the iffy folk tales in network economics emerged when Brian Arthur didn't get his papers on increasing returns published in 1985/6 and opined that this must be that this must be bc his ideas were too radical and thus rejected by mainstream economists.
That maverick story was repeated in Mitchell Waldrop's 1992 on Complexity and the early days of the Santa Fe Institute, and like many of those truthy-sounding stories it just refuses to die. It's also mostly nonsense.

One of Nigeria's biggest problems is the way we glorify suffering. It's deeply frustrating how so many people believe that whatever benefit accrued is of no value unless the work is tedious, laborious toil.
It's why we have a corporate culture where people believe that the more difficult they make the transaction, the more valuable it is.
It is why we have 2 hour meetings where the only real value is discussed in the first 10 -20 minutes.

It's why businesses in big cities refuse to allow most of their staff work from home even though it's bloody obvious that the work can be done remotely.
