Who enshrines sadistic Nazi camp guards as heroes? Who takes their lead from a murderous bigot who wanted to overthrow the US govโ€™t? Meet Sara Ault of Two Rivers, #Wisconsin of the #AsatruFolkAssembly. Image
Ault & her husband, James (left), are both leaders of the #AsatruFolkAssembly. Both identify as white nationalists. Pictured at Willow River State Park near Hudson, #Wisconsin, with #Minnesota folkbuilder Jason Gallagher & Jessie Shaffer at yearly gathering. Image

An excerpt from my Azure article re: the complexity of #streets:

Jane Jacobs talked about the ballet of the street. Lil Wayne exposed the mean side of the streets. Prince wanted to woo women in his daddyโ€™s Thunderbird on Alphabet Street.
Bruce Springsteen lamented young men scattered like leaves on street corners. And today, #feminists, #housing #justice activists, and climate crisis heroes use streets as sites for progressive protests.
Streets are at once referred to as โ€œhot,โ€ โ€œmeanโ€ and โ€œcomplete,โ€ as economic engines and social. They are a locus for community, collective memory, democracy and joy. It is where the unexpected delights of public life unfold.

I was, for no particular reason, thinking today about an ENTIRE AND VAST LITERATURE on household reproduction that encompasses many voices across many fields.

#lawtwitter #AcademicChatter
A LOT of those articles, books, and essays are written by WOMEN. So I imagine if I were, say, citing literature in my essay, I would want to be careful to ensure I encompassed it fairly. I might also look at who I am tending to cite in my footnotes.

1/ This thread reflects on a recurring problem in discussing the history of #animalstudies, critical animal studies, & human-animal studies. Itโ€™s #misogyny. Hereโ€™s the jist: feminists & feminist ideas are devalued or ignored only to see our ideas appropriated while we disappear.
2/ This reflects on a recurring problem in animal studies. I will try later to add another thread w/ many citations of impt writings. So this is the first of more to come
3/ In Ecofeminism: Feminist Intersections with Other Animals and the Earth, @last1000chimps & I described how reflections on the development of the animal protection movement usually tell the story of its beginning w/ the publication of @PeterSingerโ€™s Animal Liberation in 1975

we say #feminism they say #equality
We say #blacklivesmatter they say #alllivesmatter

Itโ€™s always the one on the other side of the line that are oblivious to the fight, the pain, the injustices.

If people are out on the road and you do not understand - educate yourself!
Donโ€™t disagree!

When you think it is not needed where thousands, if not millions, are crying for it - you obviously donโ€™t know the whole story.

Does a doctor diagnose with one symptom?
do you graduate after one class?
Do you know where Iโ€™m goin with this?
no one knows everything - before you disagree or advocate against what people are protesting for - PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF.

Itโ€™s ok to not know - it is,however, NOT OKAY to be ignorant.

History is a lesson, donโ€™t google what you think, google facts & news.

Around 5 years ago I first encountered the vitriolic attacks on #women asserting their right to politically self-organise from so-called trans-rights activists in a socialist group I associated with at the time. Having been active in radical left... /1
...politics for nearly 30 years I had never encountered such appallingly sectarian, dishonest & personal attacks on the left. My first reaction was to defend #women's self-organisation on the basis that we must also support #LGBT self-organisation so ensuring... /2
...that different oppressed groups each had space & representation to better challenge that oppression. For this I was denounced as #transphobic just as the #women had been for asserting their right to self-organise had been & I first encountered the mantra... /3

Support for survivors of sexual assault on a day a rapist has died, a thread:

[Content Warning: This thread uses the r-word, and deals with aftermath-related issues, but does not contain detailed descriptions of assault.]

I'm not going to type his name or use any hashtags, lest I be accused of being an insensitive monster. I'm not. Losing a father or a spouse so suddenly is a pain I can't imagine. Not to mention his daughter on that helicopter too. Devastating. I can't imagine. 2/18
But ... Isn't it interesting, how survivors are always asked to think of the rapist's family?

Is that right, or fair? WHY IS IT OKAY to ask this of survivors?

I'm so tired of EVERYONE being prioritized over survivors in this world. I'm so tired of being SILENCED. 3/18

Sundays are for #SundayRead! Sharing links to pieces about #feminism, women's rights and women's lives that resonated with me this week.
In our #feminist/#globaldev jargon, "women's empowerment" is a phrase that makes me go ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿคฌ. @FrancoiseGirard breaks down the need for political empowerment and how philanthropy can help make it a reality. Thorough & insightful.

A movement, not a moment: that's what it'll take for #SexForGrades to end. Amazing to see a group of African #feminists come together with a strong statement - including a useful list of resources. Thank you

My #SundayMorning ritual: getting up when the family is still asleep (or hiding from them if I do oversleep) and catching up on a week's worth of articles, blog posts, etc. And now: sharing a little selection with you all!
Let's do this.

@felogene explains why the #feminist politics of breastfeeding go beyond freeing the nipple. Corporate power threatens choices for women living in poverty in the Global South - and their children's health.

In Africa (and elsewhere), the relationship between international NGOs and women's rights organizations can be toxic. Thank you @MSalimu for breaking down why. Time for INGOs to engage with local groups "as counterparts, not spare parts".
