The Administration claims that the #TrumpBudget cuts non-defense discretionary program (NDD) funding “by 5%,” but this is inaccurate. 1/6
In reality, the #TrumpBudget cuts non-defense discretionary programs by 9% without adjusting for inflation, or 11% if inflation is taken into account, compared with 2019 funding levels. 2/6
The Administration has confused the depth of its cuts by using different figures in different places and in one case comparing apples and oranges. 3/6
Specifically, when claiming the cut is 5%, the Administration relies on a cherry-picked set of adjustments to the 2020 funding level without making comparable adjustments to the 2019 level. 4/6
The Administration wants to claim large deficit reduction from NDD cuts (that grow deeper and deeper over the decade), while also claiming it won’t heavily impact important public services. 5/6
