Commerce Department calendars we obtained show that in April 2017, Secretary Wilbur Ross was contacted by and met with "an informal adviser to IP3" to set up a meeting about a “Middle East Power Infrastructure” and “Security Initiative” that IP3 developed.
The meeting request also mentions that the initiative would solve "the Westinghouse problem." The Oversight Committee report notes that Westinghouse Electric is part of IP3’s proposed consortium to build nuclear reactors in Saudi Arabia: documentcloud.org/documents/5003…
The request also mentioned that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Secretary Perry had “been briefed on the Initiative and have given it their full support.”
The email also lists Tom Barrack as a supporter. Barrack, Trump's longtime friend, has had a number of business ties to Saudi Arabia and served as chair of the president’s inaugural committee, which is now being investigated.
Treasury calendars we obtained show that Secretary Steven Mnuchin met with Barrack at least three times in the months after the inauguration, including once with ambassadors of multiple Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia: documentcloud.org/documents/5686…
