2/ Have my back - Be part of my team. Be a safe place where I can talk about what’s really hard about building my company. Be a rock.
3/ Help me recruit stars. Raise my bar on talent. Help me land amazing talent. Help me avoid hiring mistakes.
4/ “See around corners”. Help me anticipate problems, prepare for scale. Help me make the hard strategic decisions.
5/ Get me funded. Firstly, lead your own round, create the best syndicate, augment my investor base. Then: help me indetify the best follow-on investors early, build the right relationships, identify the key de-risking points and building blocks of value.
6/ Above all - be pragmatic. Live with the reality of my company and my team and what we can deliver. Be evidence driven. Be courageous. Be consistent.

1/ I really don’t buy the “boardless” startup movement, sorry.
2/ if you think boards suck, design your board differently!
3/ but I know that for myself, forcing some kind of regular checkpoint to hold myself accountable to others on objectives, get a different perspective and have a “safe” environment where I can discuss important strategic or team issues is hugely valuable.

Or rather, NOT saying no.

And all that relates: Lack of insight into the VC process/timing/ slow 'no's. No transparency on real timelines for decision making. Failure to give honest feedback after passing on a deal.

Back in the courtroom today--sorry I haven't been tweeting. I was inside the courtroom as opposed to in the media room. Cross examination finished up for Villegas, the RRPD detective. Then one of Bates's daughters took the stand. She's the teenager.
She said her mom pulled her out of school in Spring of 2017--just a few weeks before the end of the school year. She started homeschooling--used a computer for lessons.
At this time, she lived in Round Rock with her mom, her step dad, and her younger sister. (please note that I will not be using the girls' names.)

Some Nine World's stuff worthy of a read.
One of the reasons why the 9W stuff is interesting to me is partly due to how it all turned out, what they achieved and the hardships they faced and also partly because I could see Kitacon going the same route and facing the same challenges.
Obviously I'm keen to avoid the pitfalls others have made in order to maintain a strong event and team but I can't help be worried about the geek/nerd communities being swallowed up by non caring events worried only about their bottom line.

The first time Taehyung goes on a mission, it’s by complete accident.

There’s some sort of chaos outbreak at HQ, and before he knows it, Taehyung--an untrained, unpaid, unsure intern--is swept into a slick black SUV and sent off to an unknown location.
He looks around, not very optimistic at the sight of the other nervous faces in the car. When the vehicle finally stops, the doors are pulled open by a very gruff-looking man, his face streaked with blood and his arm in a rough-looking sling.

I haven't wanted to talk about it yet, but last week I had the hardest day of dogsledding I've ever experienced. Actually, I still don't want to talk about it, but it feels important to share the bad with the good. This is a complicated, wild life we live. It's not always pretty.
We were up in Grand Marais, Minnesota, exploring some new trails. Another musher, Mary, met us up there. She's awesome and the two of us were going to run two teams an easy 35 miles and meet Q a few hours up the trail, where he'd have meat waiting for the dogs.
After some driving, we decided to set off across Devil's Track Lake, which would take us over six miles of ice before meeting up with a snowmobile trail. The dogs did a great job crossing lakes in the Gunflint so I wasn't worried about navigating.
