We live with a myth of personal redemptive violence.
The massacres are necessary for the entire myth.
This fantasy requires a bad guy.
Hard to fantasize about stopping a massacre if there are no massacres to stop.
The theory is that people are stockpiling before a government ban. And sure, that pitch is used.
But even the dullest gun-defender must see by now, we don't do that here.
I think they're buying guns because it reminds them of the fantasy.
Pro-gun arguments sound like advertising slogans. That's not accidental.
Before we can even do that, we must acknowledge that most who defend our gun status quo actually have a psychological desire for a world containing massacres. You'll hear them say it, if you listen.
Before the plan, determination
But before determination, a realization that determination is even necessary
The reason we have so many massacres is because the empowered collective "we" wants them
"We" should stop that
We should say so
The reality they have imposed testifies against them.
They insist on driving. If this wasn't their intended destination, why are we here?
"We" need to make that shift.
We need to demand it.
And we're going to get them.
