Since folks still seem confused: There's nothing in the tweet below that suggests that I didn't understand that Podhoretz was joking when he called for the murder of thousands of people because a college hired two journalists. Yes. He was joking. Yes. I got that.
Also, Podhoretz himself has apologized for the tweet. So either the tweet was bad and worthy of an apology, or he's a craven little weasel who apologizes for stuff he shouldn't apologize for. Either way, seems to me you're quarrel is with him, not me, at this point.
And if you're somehow still mad I didn't make it clearer that he was joking, please share your theory of my tweet. Is it that I was trying to trick people into thinking that the editor of Commentary had written a sincere exhortation to nuclear mass murder? On Twitter? Really?
"You should have said explicitly that his tweet was a joke." Because why? Seriously. Because why?
Not because anyone was misled, because nobody was. Not because anyone was confused, because nobody was. Because I was, perhaps, rhetorically ungenerous? In my response to the tweet joking about the mass murder of his ideological adversaries? Was that the issue?
Was I, perhaps, unkind?
