I have never deleted a voicemail that either of my children have ever sent me.
On this subject, Apple really should make it easier to save and name old voicemails and other voice memos.
Relatedly: If you have small children, make a point of making audio recordings of you hanging out with them ALL THE TIME. I have some, but you never get around to doing it as often as you mean to.
And there's this weird thing that happens where every moment of their childhood is the boring now, and it's the interesting past you want to remember, so you wind up not documenting as much as you might. Ignore that impulse.
The stories I wrote down when they happened are the ones I remember best now. The moments that I recorded are moments that would otherwise be lost, and even the ones that were ordinary at the time are thrilling now.
And when I say "do it all the time," I don't mean every day. Once every two or three months will be a huge trove of wonderfulness in a decade or two.
I have exactly fifteen seconds of video from the first camping trip I took alone with the kids. But it's fifteen seconds of them standing in a tent yelling about marshmallows, so it's heaven.
I'm glad I didn't spend that trip chasing around after them with a camera all day every day. But I'm ecstatic that I have those fifteen seconds.
