Mourinho gave Mikel a great career. I wonder where we got the idea that he would have had a better career with another manager. Why? Because he was second best player behind Messi at the Under 20 World Cup in 2005?

Let me tell you a story.

In 2003, the best player at the Under 20 World Cup was a dude named Ismail Matar.

In 2007 at the Under 20 World Cup, the player that was second best player (best was Aguero) was a dude named Maximiliano Moralez.

In 2011 Under 20 World Cup, Henrique Almeida was the best player.
What’s my point? Winning the best player at a youth tourney is not a right that you must have a great career. Because you came second behind Messi doesn’t mean you will be anywhere near Messi in future. In his own right, Mikel has had a great career. Let’s check...
About a decade playing for Chelsea and making about 250 appearances.

Two EPL titles.

3 FA Cups

1 Europa League

1 Champions League

Captained his country.

Made money.

There is no assurance that if he had played under another manager, he would have excelled.
When Pep moved to City, many people hoped that Iheanacho would become world class. If it was Jose that moved to City and Iheanacho out of the Etihad, I wonder what we would have been saying.
Jose happened which was great for Mikel. He gave him a chance to excel. Just the way he gave other African players like Drogba and Mikel chances. While you are criticizing Jose, I’m sure Mikel says a prayer for him every morning.
