In January, @tim_cook said Apple is accelerating initiatives to offset the slowed iPhone sales. Perhaps that is why we saw a March event with only 1 of 5 major announcements available today. TV app/channels is May, credit card is summer, video service is fall, gaming is fall.
Apple could have held new TV app and channels till WWDC in early June and released that day. Could have tied gaming service to the iPhone 11 in September, certainly was a typical WWDC/developer announcement perfect for June. They even announced macOS 10.15’s TV app early.
Only thing that was ready for March was News and that isn’t event worthy on its own. Not really even if they combo’d with last week’s hardware. The whole celebrity show made sense early too to drum up publicity. Didn’t fit in June or September events. Card could’ve been June too.
Bigger question: is Apple clearing the decks for WWDC? They just saved an hour they no longer will need on TV, Apple Pay/card and gaming. Mac Pro, big iOS 13 iPad update, and Marzipan roadmap will need time, but more coming too.

Think the credit card is going to be a hit with people who don’t play the credit card rewards/optimization game (most people). 2% cash back on Apple Pay purchases is up there with the best (especially at no fee), but 1% on card swipes is mediocre. Still overall good value prop.
