i’ve been joking for months that wes’ daughters weren’t gonna let their dad run again. when he shared that his wife was pregnant, i was sure this announcement was coming.
all jokes aside, i respect this choice. it’s not an easy job for anyone, but the kind of abuse wes & his family have endured over the last few years is truly appalling.
kathy nearly cried when i called her a class traitor and signer never misses an opportunity to tell a sob story, but wes and his family, including his young daughters, get harassment, abuse, and threats of violence that are shocking even to me.
do better, charlottesville. i love participatory government. i love heckling! i think it’s important to hold our public officials accountable even and especially when it’s uncomfortable. but the way some of y’all treated this man is literally criminal.
anyway, with today being the filing deadline, we can officially say that there are no incumbents in this year’s city council race. three of the five seats are wide open now (heather & nikuyah have another year).
of the three outgoing councilors - kathy’s running for state delegate (WHY?), wes is focusing on family, and signer’s political career is, i assume and sincerely hope, finally being put out of its misery. god don’t let that man fail upwards. (they always do!)
