I trot out this tweet every two years or so but today felt appropriate given most of the 2012-2015 unicorns are just regular boring public companies now (or will soon be).

Without further ado, I give you the yearly NYTimes "Are we in a tech bubble" pieces.
In 2011: (props to @pmarca for being somewhat prescient in that interview)
In 2012: A very bubbly year.
In 2013: weird to see Blackberry there but still bubbly.
In 2014: This might be peak bubble. You also see the rise of other narratives - the VC subsidized lifestyle for one.
In 2015: Very bubbly. Fun fact: the lead piece there only mentions two companies - Uber and Slack but both at lower valuations than they are today.
In 2016: I had to cheat a bit this year as the elections really dominated the Silicon Valley theme. Not as bubbly but still frothy - I wonder if that's because these companies were now seen as here to stay.
In 2017: The answer to the question of the lead piece? "Not this year!"
In 2018: It's just a question of "When", not "If". Props to @eringriffith for her piece which actually got at the real story on how large funding rounds had gotten.
And finally, now in 2019: "Some warning signs"!. Again, props to @eringriffith - she might have captured the real narrative here - that of folks *wanting* a downturn.
See you again in 2020!

Love the NYT but find the obsession with a Silicon Valley bubble more and more amusing as the years go by!
