25 shots. Into a 20 y/o black man asleep in car. Blame not just on police dept. But on prosecutors who continue to rely on officer for prosecutions despite previously shooting an unarmed man & history of brutality. Still hasn’t been charged. No accountability breeds violence.
To add insult to injury (actually, death). The body cam video was released today, but “Police officials did not give the family or their attorney a heads-up about their decision to release it. It caught them off-guard.” Black victims & their families are treated as subhuman.
Vallejo police initially said that McCoy had a gun in his lap, & that officers opened fire when he did not respond to demands to put his hands up & instead reached downwards. They didn’t mention he was sleeping. Video does not show him “reach[ing] downwards.” They lied. Obviously
In lead up, officer says: “I’m going to pull him out and snatch his ass.”
