1/3 It’s important for Congress to see the full Mueller Report & its attachments. But, to get to the point where they could write that Report SCO engaged in interviews, records gathering, document collection & electronic searches. That underlying evidence is likely voluminous.
2/3 Even if that evidence didn’t lead to indictments, it’s needed by Congress to determine what happened, whether any censure is warranted & how to best protect the country in the future. Congress must also make sure the public learns the truth-that’s the only path forward.
3/3 Mueller limited his scope to conspiracy/coordination between the campaign & obstruction. We know he investigated more broadly & sent cases to other offices. While info about ongoing investigations won’t be revealed yet, a wildcard here is what else might be in Mueller’s files

1/2 Will the “parts of it redacted” from the version of the Mueller Report AG Barr sends to the Hill be grand jury material & if so, why won’t the AG ask for a court order to permit turnover of that material? washingtonpost.com/news/politics/…
2/2 Protecting uncharged people is a weak rationale in a case with so much publicity their identities are known, given the likely impossibility Congress can understand Trump’s conduct without insight into those around him.
The AG also clarified a question I asked on air yesterday-whether the 300+ pages was the report with or without attachments. We now know Mueller wrote a nearly 400 page analysis of his investigation! There are additional exhibits/appendices.

I still have a lot of questions. Some of them will be answered by the Mueller report or when investigations by other prosecutors conclude. But I thought it would be helpful to have a thread where we assess our unanswered questions at this point and see what we can make of them.
I accept the legal judgments of the Mueller report sight unseen, because I believe they followed the rule of law & the process the special counsel‘s office used had integrity. So, lots of unanswered questions about what’s in the report, but not about its prosecutive decisions.
A big question I have is why it was so important to Trump to lie about the reason for the Trump Tower meeting in June 2016 that involved Don Jr., Jared, Manafort & Russians. Trump dictated the cover-up story himself. If nothing improper happened, why was it so important to lie?

Barr weighed in & cleared Trump of obstruction after 48 hours’ review, when Mueller declined to make a judgment, in essence, leaving it to Congress to do so.
Barr’s letter is careful to say he does not believe there is proof, beyond a reasonable doubt, of acts of obstruction with a nexus to an official investigation & corrupt intent. That is how he couches his obstruction finding & it leaves a lot of gray area Congress should explore.
Barr has taken an expansive view of executive power. We don’t know based on the letter, but it would be consistent with his view for him to conclude that, for instance, firing Comey, which he was “entitled” to do, couldn’t be an act of obstruction.

This is really weird. I went into this article thinking that the Democrats were floating impeachment as a pretext to get all the Mueller report (unredacted) but it's the Republicans doing it: politico.com/story/2019/04/…

The Republicans are gambling here, thinking that the Democrats don't want to impeach.

2/ @maddow has focused on Trump-Russia more than any U.S. journalist—so if her show has LITERALLY NO IDEA what happened on Sunday and can only express it in on-screen chyrons that are 100% WRONG, America's in real danger of having our Trump-Russia discourse descend into nonsense.

Barr introduced his letter to the Senate and House Judiciary Committees by saying:

“I am writing today to advise you of the principal conclusions reached by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller and to inform you of the status of my initial review of the report he has prepared.”
This introduction does not fit his letter, though:

If one wanted to advise of the report’s “principal conclusions,” one would expect that more of the “principal conclusions” actually be shared.

We knew from his confirmation hearing that Attorney General Barr would never conclude the president obstructed justice, which is why it is critical for Congress to see the full #Muellerreport and the evidence behind it.
As the AG writes, Mueller issued thousands of subpoenas, interviewed scores of witnesses, executed hundreds of search warrants, and collected massive quantities of documentation.
As to obstruction, #Mueller did not exonerate the President, and left the decision whether to charge an offense to the AG, a decision which he appears to have made with astonishing speed.

1/ Barr is already started discussions about how much of the Mueller report to make public , according to @CNN. He has not committed to make the entire report public, and I expect that much of the report will not be public unless a new bipartisan bill becomes law.
@CNN 2/ As the article linked above notes, the Special Counsel regulations require Mueller merely to submit a *confidential* report to the Attorney General regarding the charging decisions he made or chose not to make. That report does not need to contain evidence or be detailed.
@CNN 3/ If Mueller includes evidence that he obtained via a grand jury subpoena, or testimony that was provided to the grand jury, Barr will be unable to disclose that information to the public without violating Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e).
