Jane Philpott and Jody Wilson-Raybould are speaking to reporters right now. Philpott says her decisions were in the best interests of Canadians. Says it is unfortunate it has come to this.
Philpott says at the end of the day, you have to be able to hold your head high, and look yourself in the mirror. Can't always control what happens.
Wilson-Raybould says she remains a proud member of politics. Says she is, to put it lightly, disappointed. Says if you hold strong to your principles, the truth and principles must always come first.
Wilson-Raybould says trust is a two way street. Says talking about unconscionable, it is unconscionable to tread on the independence of the public prosecutor. Says it is alarming people are focusing on the recording, not the contents.
Wilson-Raybould says there is nothing illegal about the recording. Says she knew her job was at risk.
Philpott says voters expected she would be ethical, uphold structures of democracy, and one of those structures is an independent justice system. To say something is good enough because a law was not broken is a low bar.
In French, Philpott says she has no regrets. Says when cabinet was told to agree with all communications of the government, she says she could not agree with cabinet solidarity.
Philpott says what happened was that after this story became public, and it was clear there were attempts to intervene in a criminal trial, and the government plan was to deny it, she says she couldn't do it.
Philpott says you don't necessarily have to agree with cabinet decisions, but she couldn't agree with those words.
Wilson-Raybould says she needs some time to reflect. Says it has been a difficult time for her and her family before figuring out what happens next.
Wilson-Raybould says she had a great fortune of watching Daughters of the Vote and hearing the women make presentations. Says to see the leadership of the young people, if we all work together in the best way we can, we can resemble the Daughters of the Vote.
Philpott says what happened yesterday was not something she expected, especially the way it happened. Says she gave up a career in medicine, and could consider going back.
Philpott says the PM did a good job leading the country over the last few years. Says she wishes he has the opportunity to continue that work.
