just had the idea leap into my head that my generation has this buried fundamental Officecore aesthetic that we can't dispense of or lean into
we all have this genetic memory baked into us that says that at one point there were people going to Office Jobs where they sat in a neutral-colored, brightly lit sensory deprivation cube where the only smell was of Xerox and did work that required no questions to be asked
and we all imagine this as a sort of timeless purgatorial existence, immersed in the trappings of Office in the windows 95 era. putting numbers into a spreadsheet and creating reports, but there's no internet
there's no IMs coming in. there might be email but it's plain text and fairly short and simple. please send over the Richardson contract. you find it on your hard drive. drag and drop.
do we all share a fantasy of a world where using the computer to do work did not mean being constantly talked to by a thousand people. is there a peacefulness in this that none of us have seen but we all silently imagine once existed
a review of the modern connected office, by dril
but yeah i feel like a lot of "vaporwave" shit that i've seen is, like, productivity software in pastels in a white room and i kinda think that my cohort yearns for this kind of quiet monotony
