We don’t know everything. We have a limited scope of information. In that environment speculation is all we have. If you pretend to know or have inside info and you’re wrong then that’s one thing. I admittedly have none of that. 1/3
At the same time when new info contradicts me I adjust and acknowledge error. Dowd’s interviews (I’ve listened to both of them) do not provide any new info on the Mueller appointment or the Oval Office interview. 2/3
All of the melodrama he describes about Rosenstein and Sessions was already known. And I earlier posted an article that explains he was factually wrong about some of it.

I’m not a journalist. I speculate. I care about being as accurate as that sort of thing allows. 3/3

1/ Dowd says no one knows why Rosenstein appointed a S.C. and no one knows why he selected Mueller. Dowd says up to that point after Comey’s firing there had been no discussion of appointing a S.C.
2/ Then he describes a melodrama that includes Sessions offering his resignation and Rosenstein behind his desk asking if Trump would fire him.
3/ Dowd says no one knows how Rosenstein and Mueller got together or why Mueller was picked. He says no one has ever answered any questions about that.

1/ What Trump did was risky. Starting with nominating Rosenstein. At the height of the resistance he appointed a person that was confirmed 94-6. Rod wasn’t in the bag or a wingman. He was going to call balls and strikes. Do things by the book.
2/ People say Trump didn’t know Sessions would recuse. I disagree but maybe he didn’t. But to appoint RR DAG you would have to be 100% confident Sessions wouldn’t recuse. Or you were putting yourself at risk. IF! If you had done wrong or feared the deep state.
3/ Then not only does Trump not fire Rosenstein after he appoints Mueller, he also rebuffs an offer from Sessions to resign. As early as May of 2017. So Trump decides to leave things as they were. AFTER Mueller was appointed.

1/ So Trump interviewed four people for FBI Director. One he had a previous dispute with over a golf course but Trump interviewed him anyway and then didn’t select him based on the previously known dispute. This person was also not eligible to be FBI Director.
2/ This meeting coincidentally happened hours after Rosenstein left a meeting with McCabe where Rod had to rebuff attempts by McCabe to monitor the President.
3/ The surprise appointment the following day extracted the investigation from McCabe and handed it to the person Trump interviewed, in the hours after the RR McCabe showdown, for FBI Director even though he wasn’t eligible to be FBI Director.
