Most depressing part of this piece is that it assumes high school should just be a mindless slog toward college acceptance after which students can live for a semester before the slog continues in college. nytimes.com/2019/04/04/wel…
One of the moments of epiphany in my teaching was when a college sophomore openly longed for retirement so she could finally start to pursue the things she wanted to do with her life. Wrote about it in Why They Can't Write. 
The solution to "senioritis" isn't to encourage students to suddenly start living once they've secured college acceptance. We can obviate senioritis by giving students freedom and agency throughout their schooling.
