Meta-commentary, but I've noticed that journalists/commentators who receive a modest income through crowdfunding are subject to intense scorn and ridicule (grifter!) while journalists/commentators paid by giant corporations, with all the corruption that entails, are just "normal"
In the short time that I've been producing videos/podcasts (around two weeks) I'm proud to have developed an income derived almost entirely from regular people (in addition to paid freelance work). Seems like a pretty good model. patreon.com/mtracey
Yes, there are some genuine grifters out there who bilk people for crowdfunding money (guys like @funder). But crowdfunding obviously does not ipso facto make one a grifter. I'm as transparent as possible. The typical media models are broken, and we need new ones.
