As people have asked -- plus gave them list to add of "3 days of undies/food etc", the highlights:
- complete first aid kit
- emergency crank/solar radio
- lifestraw rather than tablets
- solar battery phone/tablet charger
- various light sources
- set of N95 masks
- etc etc
Kind of a mix of earthquake and go bag, and there was some stuff I thought would be hinky so put on the list for them to get themselves. Like, I do not think I can buy my writers 25' of rope without HR looking askance.
And FWIW blow off "rations" and go with Clif bars. Better tasting and they keep pretty damn well.

For FUCK sake I know both Obama and Hillary said this. It’s one of the reasons I *voted for both of them*. I was referring to having one of the *current* candidates make it the centerpiece of their LAUNCH.
Yes, the press is fucking up/ showing the same biases it always does, and in particular repeating the issues with they had Clinton. But you can say “I like the particular way that candidate phrases something” or an approach in general without even intending on voting for someone
For all I know Andrew Yang has a good idea or a nice turn of phrase, and if I hear it I’ll say “hey nice to have somebody saying that *this year* and *in that way*.”

RPG Thread: Apropos of nothing but I'm prepping tomorrow's game, one of the little details in our Future Mars Blades in the Dark Game is that on dystopian noir Mars the recreations of episodes of Michael Schur TV shows are performed live in the park, like revivals.
FWIW this was because I'd been reading about kids watching FRIENDS on Netflix, becoming giant fans, and not realizing how old it was. In a difficult future, 150 year old stories about decent people being good to each other might have a certain following, like Austen does now.
So take that if it's useful --when playing the near future (and writing it too, I suppose) don't just extend tech, or politics, or the bad things. Extend the pleasant little good bits of culture, too.

1/ The mad thing is, we wouldn’t even be in the WGA/ATA situation if the agencies had been 10% less greedy and 10% smarter. Just a few less stories where writers were TOLD by the agent all the wanted was the package, using outside voice instead of inside voice.
2/ just a few less “our overhead is SO HIGH” speeches delivered RIGHT AFTER buying a new brand new building, less IPO and “strategic partnership” chatter.
3/ of the agencies had said “we’ll change it so we only get packaging if the majority of the salaries booked is for our clients” or any other reasonable metric, this would’ve collapsed in a week.

This is a great question, and I think the answer is in short that periods are often another way for men to refuse us the right to be individual and equally human, no matter what explanations we give. Our "moods" and valid emotions are made menstrual by default, for instance.
It becomes an easy way to deny us expression, because if you happen to be angry with someone but it is your period, then it is the period that is angry without cause. Dismissing women as angry - especially black women - is an easy way people use to invisibilise us further
Again the issue of "moods" implies that women should be generally easy to get along with, but men having clouds of impenetrable emotions rarely gets called moods, that's just being a man

Hawaii made it real. Now people need a plan. I don't claim to be a survival expert, this is just a start that I hope smarter people will add to.

THREAD
Make a plan: who, what, where, when
1) Who: Family? Friends? Make the plan WITH them, so that nobody wastes time contacting others–everybody just knows the plan. Every able-bodied/mobile adult should commit to scooping one member of the plan who isn't.
2) What: know what you will need. Every member of the plan should prepare a bugout bag. That bag should have ONE purpose: working the plan. It can NOT be your day BAG, but keep it at hand-always–maybe the trunk?
