Not calling impeachment hearings is a political decision that could backfire against the Democrats:
There's no guarantee Dems will keep the House. And why wouldn't the GOP steal the White House again like they did in 2000 and in 2016? Dems need to use their power while they have it. Yes, the Blue Wave that gave Democrats the House wanted impeachment: cnn.com/2018/11/07/pol…
The Clinton impeachment hearings in no way compare to the situation we find ourselves in today:

(Side note: It really amazes us how many people base their position against impeachment on disinformation that can easily be fact-checked in a 30-second Google search.)
But the Senate will never vote to impeach Trump, we don't have the bipartisan support in the Senate, what's the point of failing without the Senate? Harry Reid's former deputy chief of staff addresses that here:

One of the saddest reasons against impeachment we've heard is that we're in a hostage situation & Pelosi must be careful given how abusive Trump is. That means the rule of law, upholding the Constitution, accountability must not be exercised? Then we've already lost our country.
