This is not an attack on the BBC but an insight to how the placement of certain pro-govt individuals has turned its news & political depts into little more than an instrument for govt propaganda controlling what information is available to the public and how it is presented. 2/
The warning signs were visible for all to see shortly after the 2016ref when Murdoch was pictured sat with Farage, Fox & BBC R4 editor, Sarah Sands at a garden luncheon party. The program's Brexit stance ever since is no coincidence, but the govt's influence runs much deeper 3/
On 2/4/17 the BBC Trust (established after the Hutton Inquiry following criticism for the Beebs coverage of David Kelly's death) was closed down before the new Royal Charter was written. Governance was then transferred to the new BBC Board (Ofcom became the regulator). 4/
This meant (and you may remember David Cameron joking about shutting them down) that the Trust's operational independence (from the BBC) & its aim to make decisions in the best interest of licence-fee payers ended just months after the 2016ref. 5/
High-level BBC posts were being filled by private sector pro-govt figures (e.g. Robbie Gibb, David Clementi, James Harding and Rona Fairhead) while direct links to the tabloid press were being fortified by Downing Street. The likes of Andy Coulson & Craig Oliver were employed. 6/
In the meantime Alison Fuller Pedley (formally Merton Media) was put in charge of selecting Question Time audiences and Sarah Sands in charge of editing BBC R4 (her background includes the Telegraph and Daily Mail). All this after Baron Browne (of Madingley) was employed by DC 7/
You may remember John Browne from the BP Deep Horizon scandal in 2010. But - that year - Cameron handed him the post of 'Lead Non-Executive Director' in Downing St to recruit business leaders to reformed departmental boards. 8/
'Non-Executive' means without liability in the long run and gives the title holder a large amount of leeway to recruit & direct policy with little accountability. Its a mystery (not) how these underhand methods of controlling the state broadcaster went unreported for so long. /9
It was only last month (March 2019) that Ofcom finally opened an inquiry into BBC bias following unprecedented levels of complaints from the public for its handling of Brexit. This inquiry has gone largely without media attention since it began. 10/
The very public attempts by Bannon to instal as many right wing politicans into Western democracies as possible is a warning from history, we should be cautious about what's happening at the BBC. Read 1984 & you'll know that control begins with controlling public information. 11/
