- took a year to suspend a member who defended Cable Street fascists
- eight months to suspend a candidate who said the Holocaust was a “hoax”

Difficult to put into words the scenes we saw today as New Zealand marked the one week anniversary of the #Christchurch mosque massacres. For me it’s this photo I took shortly after prayers ended — to me it sums up how the nation has responded to the gunman’s race hatred 🇳🇿 🕌
The white supremacist racist gunman wanted to sow destruction and division. He may have succeeded on the first. But he has so far miserably failed on the latter.
Never have I seen so many non-Muslims flock to support Muslims as their pray.

A short thread for the men in broadcasting who between them have millions of followers, a very thin skin and no interest in finding out why I tweeted that understanding male violence is vital to understanding #Christchurch. I'm looking at @mrdanwalker @piersmorgan for starters 1.
I've been accused of implying all men are terrorists. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that while we have identified racism, homophobia, white supremacy and more as elements, the common factor in extreme acts of mass violence is that they are committed by men. 2.
Between 2001 and 2017 men have made up 91 percent of all terrorism related arrests in the UK. Since 9/11, 89 percent of terrorist attacks in the US have been carried out by men. From 1982-2018 97 pct of mass shooters in the US have been men. 3.

I've read only a little of the Christchurch shooter's manifesto, but I'd advise skepticism about its contents. Online white supremacists and conspiracy theorists are inveterate liars. They invent the truth they want to be true, then justify it with reams of gibberish.
They have the emotional needs of children without having the innate goodness of children - attention, reaction, and to know they made you mad, so they can laugh at your anger. But children do it because they don't know better. Online racists do. Be skeptical. #Christchurch
As for the footage of the Christchurch massacre, I will never watch it. My mental health and sanity will not be sacrificed at the altar of "understanding" the actions of a dislocated loser. There are other ways.

TBH, shocking as it is, I'm not that surprised at the #Christchurch massacre, or that the alleged killer livestreamed his assault on @Facebook. There's literally thousands of pages dedicated to spreading murderous Islamophobia on the platform, w an audience of many millions.
You can gain some insight into the nature of the milieu by examining the joyful responses to the massacre; useful insofar as it helps explode the Ordinary Mums & Dads™ myth that leading sections of Australian media have been/will continue to propagate. #ReclaimAustralia #auspol
The killer wrote slogans on his guns. Among them is a reference to
Josué Estébanez, a neo-Nazi who stabbed a teenage antifa, Carlos Palomino, to death in Madrid in November 2007. The murder was ofc celebrated @ the time by local neo-Nazis, including Neil Erikson.
