1/ So I'm convinced that "reasonable people can disagree" on the major issues that split us evenly. I still struggle with this when seeing statements that appear batshit crazy.
2/ I mention this because of this The Intercept article that claims Julian Assange was "confined" in the Ecuador. Uh, no, he was free to leave any time. I can't see how anybody would call that "confined".

3/ But James Risen is a smart, educated person, so I guess even if I disagree with the assertion, that I'll have to accept that reasonable people can believe that.
4/ But what really gets to me is the seaming ignorance that others might disagree, assuming all readers will agree, asserting as a "fact" rather than a debatable point.
5/ In other words, that story is written for an audience that already agrees, rather than for an audience that either disagrees, or at least, is ignorant of the underlying issues.

So Democrats hate Trump for the unforgiveable crime of not being a Democrat. (Former) #neverTrump Republicans like me hate him for things like this. It's never okay to ask the country's secret policy to suppress news stories. Ever.
It's not an isolated incident. It's how he appoints incompetent politicians to the FED to get them to stop raising interest rates so he can brag how high the stock market is going. It's how he tells border control to commit crimes with promises of pardons if they do so.
Yes, Obama did a couple of bad things as well, such implementing DACA as an executive order when it should've been done with a law from Congress. But it was nothing on the scale of Trump.

1/ So based solely on my ability to read English and do math, and a willingness to be proven wrong, I calculate @MalwareTechBlog facing 6 months to 48 months, depending whether the judge believes his contrition and the government's claim of $70k damages.
2/ My guess is something closer to to 6 months, because otherwise the government risks creating another Max Butler out of somebody who otherwise is destined to fight cybercrime rather than commit it.

3/ Yes when he was young and stupid he did something stupid. At the same time, his current life's course is one that would provide benefit to society unless the government screws that up.

CNN OCRed the PDF to make a searchable version of it:

The reason is because electronic redaction covers up visually the underlying data, but still leaves the data in the document for anybody with minimal computer skills to find. So they print it out and scan back in to prevent this.
It's therefore a common thing to do [some magic] to make a searchable version of the document. I don't know how to do it, so I label this [some magic], but it's a common thing I see everywhere.

1/ Just want to talk about something that has been happening since last night. I am not sure if talking about it will make it any better - knowing Twitter, it will probably make it worse. But here goes.
2/ Yesterday morning I tweeted about Jeremy Corbyn on the #Marr show on antisemitism. I have been commenting on this issue for many weeks, as many of you know. I don't think my comments in this instance were unfair although reasonable people might disagree
3/ Just for background - I decided to start tweeting about Corbyn and antisemitism in a deeper way a few months ago as I felt there was a serious problem in the Labour Party. I am in a fairly unique position as I am Jewish, on the left, have a human rights law background

Dear Ontario. This issue is much bigger than how you feel about the change to Toronto''s council. Reasonable people can disagree on that. However, it really, really matters that your government is prepared to invoke the notwithstanding clause. (thread)
Your rights- YOUR RIGHTS - are guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Canadians are justly proud of those guarantees. They protect you - yes, YOU PERSONALLY - against injustice.
The Courts interpret and apply your Charter rights and freedoms. When doing so, they already have a safety release valve to permit government action that infringes on YOUR rights - if that infringement can be shown to be a reasonable limit in a fair and democratic society.

THREAD: Liberals- I get it- the Franken stuff blows. It challenges our values and our self image as a party/people of morals. But I worry in our quest for purity we will be slaughtered- LITERALLY.
2. We've been down this road before. We demand fair play & rule following. But we have an opponent that doesn't. They don't worry about how it will play. They don't care about the hypocrisy. They don't care when they're called on it. And they don't have to because they win.
3. We get the moral high ground and they get the goddamned country. Gerrymandering? Voter Suppression? ACA? Gorsuch? Stacking the ENTIRE judiciary? They got all of that through ill gotten gains. And we're pretty damn powerless.

We’re a year into the hell of our kakistocracy. I’m exhausted by it. Would rather not think or speak of it.

But since the fate of billions hangs in the balance, it’s something we gotta check in on from time to time.
Why are we here?

The short version is: white supremacy and toxic masculinity. These two vile problems have brought this nation, perhaps this planet, to the brink of destruction. It’s so discouraging to behold.
Reasonable people can disagree on certain political points:

The best approaches to resource allocation, the ideal means of selecting our representatives, the limits of individual and state power.

But white supremacy is an indefensible social structure. It requires dismantling.

The context is about corporate cultures and documents with the word Values literally written on them, but thought generalized more broadly.
The Constitution doesn’t define America; it’s written evidence as to what a group of Americans thought was Really Important to capture.
