Question for constitutional scholars: given Mitch McConnell’s general indifference to democratic/constitutional norms and practices, do we think that the constitution actually requires him to hold a Senate trial if the House impeaches President Trump?
2 For those watching at home here is the relevant text.
3/ Clearly the intent is that the Senate will hold a trial. But that is not a standard I’ve seen McConnell care much about. And the text does not seem to specifically require it. It just gives the sole power to hold them.
