And still there are Tory MPs who think they can remove the backstop from the withdrawal agreement.
Everyone is still having so much fun around Brexit that they're still not addressing the problem itself.
Europe has said you cannot take the backstop out of the withdrawal agreement.
But this information just cannot seem to penetrate the Brexiteers' head.
What we need is a parliament of MPs who are able to accommodate the information that the withdrawal agreement is no longer negotiable.

Why doesn't tactical voting work in European elections?
Tactical voting is when there's only one seat available, and you vote for the party most likely to win it, even if they're not usually your first preference.
I could vote Lib Dem to keep the Tories out because I know that Labour is never going to win my constituency.
That's tactical voting.
The reason it doesn't work in European elections is each constituency has several seats. And the way it works, the more seats you win, the smaller and smaller your vote becomes

A withdrawal agreement that Europe will not renegotiate, and Parliament will not accept.

But Theresa May is so personally obsessed with it that she can't see anything else.
Ever since the referendum this country has had two choices. I said right at the beginning that you could chase your own tail for years but you would always come back to the same two choices.
Leave with nothing, or don't leave at all.
But if you leave with nothing you have to take the consequences. The country will break up because of it.
And instead of facing up to that, the Brexiteers regress to the infantile. They want Brexit without consequence.

Now we meet a peculiar problem. The Tories are too stupid for the needs of the country.
The Tory remainers are protecting Theresa May, when by logic they should be most anxious to get rid of her.
See, what the remainer Tories are doing is trying to keep Theresa May going long enough that an answer falls upon them from the sky.
They still haven't come to terms that the problem has no answer.
The problem isn't even Brexit, not really. The problem is that the Conservative Party cannot function as a minority government. They never can. John Major had the same problem long ago.
Cameron would have had the same, but he solved his by going into coalition with the Lib Dems.

So two reliable sources confirm this is right. No 10 plan is to vote on Withdrawal Agreement only for MV3.... why? What's the game? #Brexit 1/thread

Assumption is that Labour front bench will vote against - and the government must know this - but that implies a clear choice on their part. /2
If the House rejects MV3 Withdrawal Agreement only, then it must face up to fact that (in absence of 'no deal') it is also voting for

a) Long Extensoin
b) European Elections. /3

Let's start with the negotiation in Brussels where @Geoffrey_Cox is trying to secure enough changes to the backstop to change his legal advice that the Irish backstop is a potentially permanent trap.

There was a reason he didn't make his promised speech last week... /2
@Geoffrey_Cox It's because he's struggling (and going to struggle) to get what the ERG wants: either a 'time-limit' or an 'exit mechanism' from the Irish backstop.

My understanding is that discussion is not on time limits, but on "elucidating" the exit-mechanism process/ 3

So the wheels have hit tarmac on one of the key #brexit conundrums:
Everyone is working so hard to find a deal that avoids a hard border in Ireland.. but if they fail, and there is ‘no deal’, then by default, there is a hard border. The @EU_Commission finally spelt that out today
Here is what EU Commission Spokesman @MargSchinas said on the issue - 🎥
The spokesman is drawing the logical conclusion to the argument of those proposing that the #Brexit deal *must* include a ‘backstop’ to avoid a hard border: that if there if there is ‘no deal’, then a hard Irish border is unavoidable.

As all eyes are on the House of Commons tonight, some reflection on the testimony @prof_mayer, @GuntramWolff, Jane Golding @BritishInEurope, I and others gave yesterday to the Bundestag's EU Committee:
First, across parties Brexit was all about damage limitation. #brexit with the withdrawal agreement is seen as damaging, a no deal Brexit even worse.

Withdrawal agreement seen as far from perfect, but at least providing some certainty for business and citizens
Second, the backstop in the withdrawal agreement is widely regarded as a huge concession _to the UK_

Major worries especially concerning the level playing field and the backstop paving the way to dismantling the integrity of the single market

1. Today in #Brexit tedium: You all saw the Barnier tweet reiterating that a Canada+++ is available and has been from the beginning. The ultra brexiters have taken that to mean an FTA plus whatever fiction they want tacked on to it.
2. They are dishonestly claiming this as a vindication of their position, conveniently ignoring that the EU will not agree to begin talks on any such agreement unless the UK signs up to an NI backstop. The EU is entirely consistent on this.
3. The ultas claim that a Canada+++ deal where they get to define what the plusses mean means that we don't need a backstop, Two problems here. The EU won;t agree to it and secondly, the details of their proposal has the same basic flaw as Chequers which the EU already declined.
