Why doesn't tactical voting work in European elections?
Tactical voting is when there's only one seat available, and you vote for the party most likely to win it, even if they're not usually your first preference.
I could vote Lib Dem to keep the Tories out because I know that Labour is never going to win my constituency.
That's tactical voting.
The reason it doesn't work in European elections is each constituency has several seats. And the way it works, the more seats you win, the smaller and smaller your vote becomes
The only way tactical voting could work would be if the votes were distributed in a very specific way, which would require the co-ordination of millions of people.
You would never be able to organise that. it's impossible.
Nigel Farage's constituency has the most seats of all. And by the time the Tories and Lib Dems have won the first five or six, and had their vote cut by three quarters, Fartage can win the seventh.
Farage will win a seat as long as people vote for him. The distribution of people voting against him makes no difference.

We've also had a revolution, which is largely unremarked. Our principles have been overthrown.

The last time our politics was driven by political fervency was in the 1970s.
For fifty years we've known, we've taught ourselves, that if you don't have a viable economy you won't have anything else.

And yet here we are, back again in the 1970s with its beery back street agitators, its bloviating MPs, its gobby, public school journalism.
The whole political . . . industry, I suppose, for a better word . . . has just gone backwards by half a century, and nobody wants to address it.

1970 levels of poverty, 1970s racism, and 1970s public crudity calling itself politics.

And still there are Tory MPs who think they can remove the backstop from the withdrawal agreement.
Everyone is still having so much fun around Brexit that they're still not addressing the problem itself.
Europe has said you cannot take the backstop out of the withdrawal agreement.
But this information just cannot seem to penetrate the Brexiteers' head.
What we need is a parliament of MPs who are able to accommodate the information that the withdrawal agreement is no longer negotiable.

A withdrawal agreement that Europe will not renegotiate, and Parliament will not accept.

But Theresa May is so personally obsessed with it that she can't see anything else.
Ever since the referendum this country has had two choices. I said right at the beginning that you could chase your own tail for years but you would always come back to the same two choices.
Leave with nothing, or don't leave at all.
But if you leave with nothing you have to take the consequences. The country will break up because of it.
And instead of facing up to that, the Brexiteers regress to the infantile. They want Brexit without consequence.

The pretext sparking the rally was Sanchez accepting an independent facilitator in future talks with the Catalans. Adding to this is that Rajoy was ousted in a no confidence vote last June and elections have not been called to give Sanchez a democratic mandate.
Sanchez relied on Catalan support in the no confidence vote and has been holding talks with regional Catalan leaders to ease tensions 👉The Sanchez approach to Catalonia is also driven by pragmatic reasons, since is dependent on their support to pass legislation e.g. his budget.

The best outcome is for your candidate to win. But if it looks like that may not happen, u need to minimise making a Wasted vote. In electoral systems, a wasted vote is any vote which is not for an elected candidate or, more broadly, a vote that does not help to elect a candidate
Instead, I will advocate TACTICAL Voting. Tactical voting is when a voter supports candidate other than his sincere preference in order to prevent an undesirable outcome. In most cases it means voting for d candidate u think has a chance of winning, not necessarily your favourite
Usually, if ur preferred candidate is Not in the TOP 2 & also more than 10% behind 2nd place 24hrs to election day; u should consider Tactical Voting; otherwise u may end up with Wasted vote. Our choices are on a spectrum. So candidates should fit into your range of acceptability

Ignore the polls and get out there and #Vote on November 6th. Relying on polling is a relic of a time gone by.
I’m not saying looking at @FiveThirtyEight’s model and charts and stuff isn’t cool, because it is and provides some insight. But no matter what the numbers say, it’s most certainly NEVER an excuse to not #Vote because you feel your peeps are a “lock”
Need nothing further than to point to 2016. Which by the way, @FiveThirtyEight didn’t really have wrong, but the “selected not elected” mindset existed before 2016. Why else would over 100 million people choose NOT to participate in their civic duty to choose their leaders.
