A nation is held together by the mutual loyalty of its tribes. Once the leadership of the nation no longer gives a fig about this mutual loyalty, it has only two options left: Dissolution or rule by force.
Better to start trying to understand what cohesion and mutual loyalty are about and seeing if something can't be done.
I know this is hard, especially for Americans, who learn nothing about national cohesion in the schools and in the universities. An entire culture that pretends that the most fundamental forces in politics do not exist. But it's better to learn late than not to learn at all.
