1. Security lapses happen. As President Maithripala Sirisena told heads of media today, the US was unable to prevent the 9/11. Another thing that comes to mind is the Boston marathon bomb. I can list out a number of similar lapses. #EasterSundayAttacksSL
2. But the more striking point is that his continuous refusal to be assertive and take charge, his insistence that he wasn't informed. Prime minister also states that he wasn't informed too. #EasterSundayAttacksSL
3. If we assume this is true, perhaps it is true given that the members of the NSC refused to meet him, does that mean the security establishment doesn't trust either of them. Not a good look guys. #EasterSundayAttacksSL
4. Right now what matters is the ability of the government to give the impression of stability. Apart from @pcranawaka and Sarath Fonseka, everyone else in the government, especially the @MaithripalaS and @RW_UNP seem bent on making fools of themselves. #EasterSundayAttacksSL
5. Contrast this with @PresRajapaksa's attitude. Everyone looks to him for guidance as he seems ready to take charge. This is why him saying Muslims shouldn't be targeted, matters. No one cares when MS, RW or Mangala says this, but in Mahinda people trust. #EasterSundayAttacksSL
6. If Govt. doesn't assert itself, hot heads will take law and initiative into their own hands. We saw this yesterday in Pasyala where about 40 people managed to cow the police and get them to promise that Ahmadis somewhere else. within week. #EasterSundayAttacksSL
7. Govt. is also asking Muslim clerics to deal with Burqa issue. Asking Muslims to do the heavy lifting is silly because there is nothing more they can do, without serious government help. Its up to the government to decide whether to ban the burqa or not. #EasterSundayAttacksSL
8. Yes, there were lapses under the Rajapaksa administration but God they project power. No one thought of taking law into their hands because 1. They were scared of Gota 2. Coz they felt the government had things under control. #EasterSundayAttacksSL
9. Hopefully the emergency laws will enable security forces to do what they have to do. In countries like Sri Lanka, the military is usually the only functional and effective institution. Also I am attaching Champika's plan #EasterSundayAttacksSL
