I stopped by the NY Auto Show last week to check out the EVs. Like everyone else, I was blown away by the @Rivian truck and SUV. Massive three rows with tons of cargo space, gorgeous interior, 400 mile range for <$100k (smaller batteries at start ~$70k). 0 to 60 in 3 seconds 1/
The iPace was great, inside and out, and Jaguar made it their signature experience, on a stage with small guided tours where they explained the car, and EV ownership, in great detail. Important educational work that more companies should be doing 2/
The Hyundai Kona was nice and seemed like a decent value. But for the same price, Tesla’s Model 3 is more compelling in almost every respect. The Chevy Bolt continues to fade, and the latest Nissan Leaf is solid but similarly failing to keep up in range+price 3/
I was most disappointed with Audi's e-tron. I wanted it to be great, but it wasn’t. It felt bulky on the outside but cramped on the inside—frunk was a flimsy after-thought. It definitely felt like Audi, which is good, and they promoted it. But it's not a ground-up EV 4/
The Mercedes EQC is nicely appointed with a rich interior and smart design touches. But they tucked it in a "Future of Mobility" back room and locked the car doors. There was little info and little foot traffic. Again, not a ground-up effort (still has a driveshaft tunnel) 5/
If @Rivian, now backed by Ford and Bezos, can execute at its Illinois plant, it has the potential to blow open a few new categories for electrification. These are luxury prices, but they are in a value class of their own. It’ll be interesting to see how Tesla’s pickup compares 6/
