I want to give an honest thread about rape culture with specific reference to rape incidences that eminate from social outings between men and women and why a majority of men are guilty for rape or sexual violation within this context.
Firstly, may I indicate that as people are being "exposed" for rape/sexual violations on Twitter today, many men have been nervous and anxious because reading the allegations they realized that the reports are similar to something they too have done to a woman.
Many men are shocked and scared because they don't see their actions as rape because it doesn't reflect the usual running up to a stranger in the bush and forcing her to have sex that they feel and believe is "true rape". let's dissect Further..
The modus operandi of most men on how to get women in this country is through social interaction. Get her to go out with you and a few friends, get her a bit tipsy because we believe alcohol will bring out her true feelings for you, and make your move. Okay.
Most of us then proceed in various different ways to "make our move". The problem arises when 1. You try and intoxicated a woman to a point where she can no longer consent or 2. Try to put her in compromising position which will force her to have sex with you.
The compromising position which many of us put women while intoxicated after a night out is where rape begins because it takes away her voluntary consent to have sex. Locking your flat, driving out and threatening not to drop her back etc.
I come back to reiterate that many men are shocked when called out for rape on this because they didn't "run up to her in the bush". We think a woman agreeing to chill means she wants to sleep with you and you simply need to "play it right" in order to sleep with her.
All men who do this know that it's wrong. But the modus operandi of sleeping with women through casual hangouts has become so adopted and approved by most men that we feel we can manipulate and force women to sleep with us thereafter with absolute impunity.
I'm not talking to women. I'm talking to men, all of you who are "scared" of being exposed. You have become comfortable in the way you're used to getting women and you have now started using all sorts of different tactics to get sex or a kiss, that amounts to violation.
And gents, it's also an issue of lazyness and lack of honesty. We don't want to get consent the right way, we don't want to court women the right way. Making your intentions known and commincating properly. You want to sneak your way into sex while she's half eyes sleepy
Stop it. Let's stop it. The culture and modus operandi of trying to "trick" women into sex is abusive and rapey. You don't alcohol your way to sex. You don't lock your flat away to sex. You don't force yourself unto a woman. You communicate properly and get consent, PROPERLY.
