Thread. This is going to be my last word, for now, on the Mortuary story as other stories and issues require our attention. I’m going to publish the original letter, which was sent by the four pathologists at University Hospital Waterford.
The reason being, I believe the letter is an extremely balanced, reasonable, and yet clearly desperate cry for help to the CEO of the South South West Hospital Group, Mr Gerry O Dwyer.
The pathologist’s only motivation was a genuine concern for patient care and dignity. It’s so much more than just “decomposing bodies” and I believe it should be seen for that reason at the very least.
Remember, as you read this letter, the CEO didn’t acknowledge it or reply to it until six months later when I issued an FOI for it. If it wasn’t for a HSE employee (who incidentally has been very worried this past fortnight) I would never have received this letter.
The pathologists wrote an internal letter and although it’s not their fault that it became public, i feel really angry at how they have become vilified by their employers and especially the Taoiseach @LeoVaradkar
Here is the letter, signed by the four pathologists who are as angry, and united today as they were when they wrote it.
